Bowling Night 4/19/2006

Well, yesterday Jared came home from practice very tired and somewhat disappointed that the team had a competitive bowling night planned. Neither of us was very excited about it, but Jared was put on a team of 4 and required to bowl at least one game with his team. I could tell from the minute we got there that Jared's comptetive edge was kicking in. I had planned on just encouraging Jared for 30 minutes or so before walking back to the hotel. Apparently somehow they were short 2 players so Angela (the strenght coach's wife) and myself were talked into playing.

Jared and I have never been bowling together so this was a first for us. Unfortunately, Jared's team was bowling in the first lane and my team was in the last lane, so we couldn't really even bowl together. On my team were Earl Cochran-DE, Jeremy Cain-LB, and Syoei Hasegawa-WR. I am so disappointed that I forgot to bring my camera to show this monumental occasion.

OK... I know the Bible calls us as wives to be submissive to our husbands, however, God created me with that same competitive edge that he gave Jared. It wasn't until the end of the game that it became a competition between Jared and I. I started bowling with the mentality that I had to do decent for a girl. I was doing pretty good.. spare here or there, but nothing spectacular. Jared's game ended before mine and he finished with a score of 96. A few of the guys caught onto the fact that I was in my ninth frame and I had a 93. All of a sudden when it was my last turn to bowl I had a small crowd watching and cheering for me to hit 4 pins. My first ball went straight for the gutter!!! What?!? I hadn't bowled a gutter ball all game!! I guess I just got really nervous. So, I did what any other competive person would do... I sucked it up, got serious and rolled the best ball I could down that lane. All 10 pins hit the floor!! Wahoo!! I even got to bowl one more ball and all in all I finshed with 110. Not that I would, but I don't even have to rub it in because he has plenty of teammates to remind him that I beat him.

In Jared's defense, he wasn't the ONLY guy I beat. I actually beat at least half of the guys, if not more. Keep in mind these guys are football players, not bowlers. I can promise you that before we come home Jared and I will have a rematch, Jared has mentioned it on more than one occasion!
